La colonna sonora di Final Fantasy X, composta
anch'essa come quelle di tutti i Final Fantasy da Nobuo Uematsu, presenta alcuni
temi più rilevanti di altri.
Sinceramente non me la sento di paragonarla alla colonna sonora di Final Fantasy
VII, che secondo il mio parere è eccellente in tutti i suoi brani. Nonostante
ci siano alcune melodie particolarmente emozionanti, per il resto non è niente
di eccezionale. Questo non significa che una soundtrack scadente, anzi, è degna
di un Final Fantasy.
Sicuramente il tema di maggior rilievo è To
Zanarkand, ascoltabile nella sequenza iniziale e in molti parti del
gioco, in altri arrangiamenti, come quello bellissimo nella sequenza finale del
gioco: una melodia coinvolgentissima e molto commovente.
Come dimenticare però l'armoniosa canzone Suteki da Ne
che Rikki canta splendidamente? Come in ogni Final Fantasy, nel decimo episodio
è questo il tema amoroso principale nella storia. Anch'esso si può ascoltare
riarrangiato varie volte (ad esempio nel brano Sight of
Spira). Ma la scena, nella quale questa canzone viene messa maggiormente
in risalto, è naturalmente quella del bacio tra Tidus e Yuna nel lago di
Macalania, dove raggiunge il culmine della sua musicalità.
Molto importante, persino ai fini della storia, è anche The
Hymn of The Faith, l'inno intercessore. Anche questo tema ci accompagna
durante tutta la nostra emozionante avventura, come sottofondo in alcune scene
(ad esempio è possibile udirlo in molti templi). Particolarmente amato da Jecht,
l'inno intercessore è molto importante proprio verso la fine, nello scontro
contro Sin.
Ma questi sono solo alcuni brani tra quelli che io ritengo molto interessanti. Ad esempio mi ha colpito molto il tema di Tidus, quello di Seymour e naturalmente la canzone Otherworld! Il primo brano rockettaro di tutti i Final Fantasy è un concentrato di energia che da una carica enorme! Lo possiamo ascoltare durante la prima apparizione di Sin e l'ultima (quando viene sconfitto, nel combattimento contro Jecht). Questa canzone racchiude tutta la vicenda come una struttura circolare: con essa inizia e con essa finisce.

La colonna sonora di Final Fantasy X è stata composta, oltre che da Nobuo Uematsu che svolge il ruolo di maggior rilievo, anche da altri due musicisti Junya Nakano (Dewprism) e Masashi Hamauzu (SaGa Frontier 2).
La colonna sonora di Final Fantasy X vanta anche della collaborazione di Rikki, una cantante di Okinawa molto famosa in Giappone, che presta la sua voce per il brano Suteki da Ne. Il singolo di Suteki da Ne è uscito il 18 Luglio 2001, in Giappone, lo stesso giorno dell'uscita del gioco. Il singolo è composto da 4 brani: Suteki da Ne, The Moon, Pure Heart e Suteki da Ne versione strumentale.
L'intera colonna sonora di Final Fantasy X è uscita il 1° Agosto 2001. Contiene tutti i brani del gioco, 91 tracce ripartite su 4 cd.

Oltre alla colonna sonora originale, è uscito anche un singolo che contiene alcuni brani, non presenti nel gioco, eseguiti Masakazu Morita et Mayuko Aoki che rispettivamente prestano le loro voci a Tidus e Yuna, sia nel gioco che nelle canzoni. Questo disco è un tributo ai due protagonisti del gioco cantato appunto dagli stessi doppiatori. Il primo brano, feel, è cantato dal punto di vista di Yuna, e riprende la melodia di "Song of Prayer". Il secondo, Go Dream, è cantato da Morita che interpreta Tidus e si può notare qualche nota ripresa dal "Tidus's Theme". L'ultimo brano è Endless Love, Endless Road, il duetto dei due cantanti.
